SMT Splicing for Consumer Electronics

Consumer lines change reels 20+ times a day: each feeder stop costs 5–10 minutes. FUNSMT double splice tape cuts that to a 60–90 second on-the-fly joint on 8–56 mm carriers, and leader extenders add ~500 mm of feedable leader to rescue short tails — keeping 40,000+ CPH lines placing.

High-mix means high changeover — splice instead of stop

Smartphones, wearables, IoT modules, and accessories run short batches with constant part-number churn. Every reel change is a choice: stop the feeder for 5–10 minutes, or splice in 60–90 seconds while the machine places from buffer. Multiply by 20+ changes a day across 10+ feeders and splicing is not a convenience — it is capacity.

Built for high-speed feeders

At 40,000+ components per hour, the feeder indexes a new pocket every 90 milliseconds — there is no tolerance for a joint that is 0.5 mm off. FUNSMT splice tape is manufactured to ±0.1 mm on width and hole registration, with adhesive peel strength specified per width, so the joint indexes exactly like the tape around it.

Stop scrapping short tails

Partial reels and cut strips pile up in every consumer-electronics factory. Leader tape extenders (8–56 mm, paper and embossed compatible) give each short strip a feedable leader, turning scrap into placements. With U.S. warehouse stock shipping in 2–3 days, replenishment matches your NPI cadence.

Consumer Electronics FAQs

How does splice tape reduce changeover time?

Instead of stopping the feeder, unloading the empty reel, and threading a new one (5–10 minutes), the operator splices the new reel tail to the running tail in 60–90 seconds while the machine places from its buffer. On lines with 20+ daily reel changes, that recovers over an hour of placements per day.

Will splice tape work at 40,000+ CPH?

Yes, if the joint is dimensioned correctly: sprocket holes aligned within 0.3 mm, no tape overhang, and adhesive seated with firm pressure. High-speed feeders punish sloppy joints — this is where ±0.1 mm manufacturing tolerance pays off.

What about paper vs embossed carrier tape?

Splice tape works on both paper and embossed (plastic) carrier tapes from 8 to 56 mm. For embossed tape, make sure the splice does not bridge over a component pocket — cut between pockets and keep the joint flat.

How do leader extenders save money here?

Consumer runs leave many short strips — cut tape from partial reels. A leader extender adds ~500 mm of feedable leader so the feeder can consume the last 50–200 components instead of scrapping the strip. At high component prices, one saved strip can pay for a pack of extenders.
